The following photos are from the making of Moonshine Remorse Redemption. The recording started out with the intent of making something of a "field" recording or a live performance around a single microphone kind of thing. It ended up being a little more produced, and sonically better than a field recording.
The project took place in Jeff's woodworking shop. Matt brought his gear in a relatively compact road case, consisting of a Mac computer, some pre-amps and mostly AKG and Shure microphones. We used vintage guitar amplifiers. A 1965 blackface Princeton Reverb and a 1967 Fender Super Reverb for Kurt. Jeff used a 1969 Fender Dual Showman, and 1954 5D6 Bassman clone by Fox Vintage Amps through Weber speakers. Kurt played a 60's Guild Starfire and Mexican Telecaster guitars. T.A. played his Martin Shenendoah and Yamaha acoustic guitars. Jeff played his GFI pedal steel, a 1954 Fender Stringmaster D8, a 1938 Richenbacher Silver Hawaiian, and a Hohner student VM accordion. Sonny played his old plywood upright Kay bass. Matt played everything percussion. He played a 1969 Volvo wheel rim while Kurt played a strum stick, and Jeff played an old pump organ and a dulcimer on Who Killed Poor Robin. This was a very "live" room to record in. We think you can hear that. Hopefully the whole thing doesn't sound too "studio." We're old school after all. Click any photo to embiggen.
